Constantin Brâncuși

Constantin Brâncusi was a Romania-born sculptor who made his career in France. He is considered the pioneer of modernism and is called the Patriarch of Modern Sculpture. He led the way for many other artists when modernism wasn't very acceptable or popular. His artworks had an abstract style that emphasised clean geometrical lines. He used the technique of direct carving in his sculptures and used raw materials to construct his artworks. Two of Constantin Brâncusi's most significant artworks were Bird in Space and Sleeping Muse. Both of these artworks are of animate objects but have a very abstract style.
